I get it, you've heard about it from a co-worker or a friend but never really bothered learning what GPT-3 really is. It is a suite of language models which performs language tasks much much better than any human out there.... Just kidding, humans still reign supreme in most language tasks, however GPT-3 gets quite close to humans on several language tasks. It is trained on 10 billion parameters and before the release of AI21 Studio, was the largest neural network produced. Typically GPT-3 is useful for Natural Language Generation tasks....
Like what? Writing cold emails, articles, descriptions for youtube videos, users describing a landing page and getting it in seconds as they describe. GPT-3 is suited for Natural Language Generation tasks as well as Natural Language Understanding tasks.
The hype is real. Our verdict is GPT-3 is very helpful for many domains. It definitely does a good job in situations where humans can spend a lot of time but don't really want to. Just like most AI that exists today it is a good supplement but not replacement to humans.
GPT-3 as such is programmed on probability, it guesses words that should come next to generate content. By virtue of this, it is a natural expert at understanding human texting habits, the model after all has studied various sequences on the internet written by human, to learn this art of understanding and generation! To be used in SEO, GPT-3 can be used in conjunction with another model which can do analysis of google trends and other sources such as Quora, Reddit, etc. This will enable a smarter solution to being found on the first page of google. SEO is not just about the technicality of producing content with high ranking phrases or words, instead it depends on content velocity (AKA how fast you can churn out content). This is another area GPT-3 powered writing tools can prove very useful. GPT-3 can help writers improve their productivity.
GPT-3 is being used in many areas of marketing like email marketing, ad creation, writing description of Youtube videos, designing landing pages, coming up with scripts for podcasts and so much more...
Nope. GPT-3 can be found spitting out gibberish in many instances. A layer of training is required on top of GPT-3 to make it more relevent to particular use cases. And even then, human intelligence shines through. Humans are creative, while GPT-3 gets close it can simply augment humans not replace them. Let me give you a small insider example, I leveraged GPT-3 to build a draft of this article however after I began reading the draft, it was apparent that I had to rephrase and reconstruct most of it. GPT-3's contribution is maybe 10% of the final copy. But I will admit it got my creative juices flowing. I was able to start without thinking for too long!
AI21 offers a suite of Language Models far superior to GPT-3 and the distribution strategy is rather open compared to OpenAI's strategy of release to only limited parties. While AI21 certainly is superior technology and is more accessible, developers who have already began working with GPT-3 may not make a switch at all. Hard to imagine that GPT-3 becomes irrelevent in near future.
Your wish is my command. Check out T-5 transformer also known as the poor man's GPT-3. GPT-j and GPT-NEO are other open source alternatives to GPT-3 if you are not in the mood to shell out hundreds or potentially thousands of dollars on AI compute. Hosting and other charges may apply if you wish to commercialise/productionise your products using these.
